Subscriber Access Difficulties

  1. If when attempting to register for the first time you are taken to the "How to Subscribe" page instead of "Member Information" or "Subscriber Information" page:
    • You may be using a different e-mail address than the one entered into our database (e-mail addresses must be exact or the database will not recognize the user.)
      1. Contact Customer Service (e-mail: CustomerService@JuneWarren-Nickles.com)
  2. You have viewed Petroleum Explorer online before but now you are asked to enter your e-mail address and password:
    • It would seem that one of two things has happened:
      1. The cookies in your browser have been deleted. Your password is saved in a cookie text file. This is to allow you to access Petroleum Explorer without having to enter your password each time. Often cookies are stored in temporary files and sometimes inadvertently they are deleted. If this is the case you will need to request a new password.
      2. You are trying to access Petroleum Explorer from another browser, workstation or remote location. Since the password is saved in a cookie only the browser that you initially registered on can be used without needing to request a new password.

Request a New Password

  1. Go to the Petroleum Explorer home page at www.petroleumexplorer.ca
  2. Click on any article under "Highlights"
  3. On the page where it says "This is a paid subscription site" insert your e-mail address and click <OK>.
  4. At the bottom of the page where it says "Email my password to me" select this link
  5. Click on <Email My Password> button
  6. When you receive your new password it is best to copy and paste it into the password field on the User Login page as sometimes typos are made. This happens because, when viewed with a serif font, such as Times New Romans, numbers can look like letters and visa versa (e.g., the number "1" and the letter "l".)

If, after requesting a new password, you are still unable to access the Petroleum Explorer reports, check to ensure that cookies are not being deleted periodically or each time you shutdown your browser.

In Internet Explorer 6:

  1. Select Tools → Internet Options → Security → Custom Level → Cookies
  2. "Enable" should be selected and "Custom Level" should be set to medium.
  3. Check the settings in Tools → Internet Options → Advanced → Security to ensure that "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder..." has not been selected.

In Netscape 8:

  1. Go to Tools → Options → Privacy
  2. Go to "Cookies"
  3. Keep Cookies: "until they expire" should be selected.

In Firefox 2:

  1. Go to Tools → Options → Privacy
  2. Under to "Cookies" ensure "Accept cookies from sites" is selected, and;
  3. Keep until: "they expire" is selected.

If all of the above settings are correct:

  1. Reinstalling the browser or upgrading should fix the problem (a file associated with the browser may be corrupt.)
  2. Viewing Petroleum Explorer in another browser (e.g., if using Internet Explorer, try Netscape) will confirm whether it is a problem with your browser. If a different browser works, then it is definitely the browser, since passwords/cookies are saved in different files.

Note:

  • You'll have to request another password if using a different browser.
  • In order to install/reinstall a browser your company may require you to consult your System Administrator.

If none of the above fits your situation check with your System Administrator:

  1. Settings on your firewall/proxy server may have been changed (e.g., not allowing cookies to be saved).
  2. Determine if others in your organization are having the same difficulties or if yours is an isolated case.

Visited Links

  1. Visited links change color from black to gray. This is to assist readers in identifying which articles/reports they have read.
  2. Visited links don't change to gray or, after a period of time, default back to black:
    1. Your Internet browser may be setup to clear the history after a certain period of time
    2. You can setup your browser to have the history clear every time you shutdown your browser
    3. You can setup your browser to clear the history after a certain number of days
    4. There has not been enough disk space allotted and files are being deleted when the history reaches a certain size

Note:

  • Browser settings vary depending on manufacturer and version. Ask your System Administrator how to check these settings in your particular browser.
